Summer Styling 2026: Thoughtful Surfaces for Modern Interiors

Jan 15, 2026 | General

As summer approaches, interiors take on a renewed sense of calm and balance. Rather than chasing trends, the focus shifts toward spaces that feel considered, comfortable and quietly expressive – where material choice plays a central role in shaping atmosphere.

Natural textures are leading this design direction, with stone, ceramic, linen and handcrafted finishes bringing depth and authenticity into everyday interiors. These elements create environments that feel grounded and timeless, allowing surfaces to speak through texture, tone and subtle detail rather than bold statements alone.

It’s within this approach to design that mosaic tiles truly come into their own — whether crafted from natural stone or ceramic. These surfaces bring together craftsmanship and contemporary appeal, offering durability alongside visual interest, and structure alongside softness in form. Used on feature walls, bathroom backdrops or kitchen details, mosaics introduce character in a way that feels refined and intentional, never overstated.

Terrazzo Kitkat & Terrazzo Punkah

The Terrazzo collection from Douglas Jones brings together two distinctive mosaic formats – KitKat and Punkah – each offering a refined way to work with natural stone in contemporary interiors.

Terrazzo Kitkat introduces a strong architectural presence through its iconic finger-tile profile. Featuring individual pieces sized at 25 × 148 × 8 mm and supplied in sheets measuring 322 × 298 × 8 mm, the long, linear format creates rhythm and flow, making it ideal for splashbacks, curved surfaces, bar fronts and modern feature walls. Its clean lines allow the natural texture of terrazzo to take centre stage without overwhelming a space.

Terrazzo Punkah offers a softer expression of stone through its popular fish-scale profile. Supplied in interlocking sheets measuring 307 × 254 × 8 mm, with approximately 13 sheets per square metre, this format introduces gentle curves and a handcrafted feel that adds movement and visual interest to decorative zones and statement walls. The result is a surface that brings warmth and depth to interiors that favour subtle detail over bold statements.

Available in four elegant stone colours, both formats are suitable for dry walls, wet walls and selected low-traffic floor areas. As with all natural stone mosaics, sealing is recommended to protect the surface and maintain its beauty over time. Together, Kitkat and Punkah provide a versatile terrazzo solution — balancing structure and softness for interiors that feel considered and enduring.

Penny Round

Bringing a different kind of character to summer interiors, Penny Round mosaics celebrate the charm of classic ceramic design. Their rounded shape introduces softness and rhythm, creating surfaces that feel approachable, playful and quietly confident.

Crafted from durable ceramic, Penny Round tiles are well suited to wet areas and medium foot-traffic spaces, making them ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, splashbacks and creative feature zones. With a palette of six versatile colours, the range offers flexibility — from calm, tonal schemes to more expressive accents that lift a space without overpowering it.

Penny Round works beautifully alongside natural materials, adding contrast through form rather than volume, and helping interiors feel layered, warm and thoughtfully composed.

A Shared Design Language

Together, Terrazzo Kitkat, Terrazzo Punkah and Penny Round reflect a shared approach to surface design — one that values craftsmanship, texture and longevity over fleeting trends.

From the refined stone character of terrazzo to the gentle curves of ceramic mosaics, these ranges offer designers and homeowners thoughtful ways to shape interiors that feel grounded, expressive and made to last. This season is less about bold statements and more about choosing materials that bring quiet confidence – surfaces that invite touch, reward close attention and support spaces designed for everyday living.
